Page Not Found error & theme is hosed

  • I am taking over hosting of a WordPress v2.9.2 site, and when I tried to load the site on my server it didn’t work. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong, and I could really use some help!

    I set up the MySQL database correctly and transferred all of the site files from the public_html directory.

    The “working” site on their current host can be viewed here:

    The broken site on our server can be viewed here:
    https://67.225.190.108/~custerag/

    It says “Page Not Found” and none of the graphical elements are showing at all.

    What am I missing and how to do I fix it, apart from installing a fresh WordPress site and importing the content then manually installing the template and all the plugins?

    You’ll have to access the WordPress database on your server via phpMyAdmin and manually change the siteurl and home values to https://67.225.190.108/~custerag

    Thanks for your help, James. I made the changes you suggested, but I’m not out of the woods yet. The “Page Not Found” error is gone now, but the theme isn’t showing up at all. I have double-checked and confirmed that the theme was uploaded successfully so I don’t know why it’s not working. Have any more ideas?

    For some reason, WordPress thinks your CSS file for this theme is at https://67.225.190.108/wp-content/themes/custer/style.css

    Before we troubleshoot this, try switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue.

    I installed and activated the Twenty Ten theme and now we have a new problem, specifically the following error message:

    “Fatal error: Call to undefined function home_url() in /home/custerag/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyten/header.php on line 63”

    Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.
