• Using Minamaze, new install of WAMP, WP and all themes and plugins. The homepage is there, but clicking on other pages such as “About” and featured area buttons, get an error message 404:

    Not Found

The requested URL /wordpress/about-solectrix-2/ was not found on this server.
    Apache/2.4.9 (Win64) PHP/5.5.12 Server at localhost Port 80

I can’t see anything wrong with the links — they are generated by WP, after all. I deleted the pages and published new ones, but they do not display. The buttons for them show up in the menu bar as they should, but clicking on them goes nowhere.

I also restarted WAMP, and it seems to be functioning as usual. But no links to pages work. It’s such a simple thing, we’re not even talking fancy widgets here: just published pages that go off into the ether somewhere. Sigh.

  • A) If you deleted pages and created new ones of the same name, make sure you empty the WordPress trash bin. Otherwise, WordPress will append “-2, -3,etc..” to your URLs in an attempt to avoid duplicate permalinks. That sometimes causes issues with live pages/posts.

    B) Did you change your permalink settings in the WordPress Dashboard?

[edit] If the answer to ‘B’ is yes, then change back to the default permalinks and see if the symptom goes away. If the symptom goes away, then navigate to the Apache options menu located in your system tray (assuming you are using WampServer) and find the option to enable Apache modules from the pop-up menus. Locate the “mod_rewrite” entry and place a check mark next to it. If mod_rewrite not being enable is the issue, the server should do a graceful restart on its own and “pretty permalinks” should start working.

I noticed the “-2” but didn’t know if it needed messing with. So I emptied the trash, made sure the permalink settings were set to default, and now the pages appear. Success! THANK YOU!!

    You’re welcome!
