Ok, this is getting out of hand.

I’m getting unexpected “Page Not Found” errors all over the place. I can create a post or page no problem, but adding an image to a page/post will return page not found.

Changing some stuff on wp-admin (eg. change the permalink type) and click “Save Changes” button will return page not found.

Edit some of the code on Plugins>Editor or Appearance>Editor, click “Save” will return page not found as well. This is getting so frustrating!

    Any help?

Just tried turning off all the plugins + changed to twentysomething theme, still the same issue.

Will contact the hosting provider on turning off the mod_security, not sure if they’ll even allow it, although if I’m not mistaken it can be turned off just for a particular domain, and not the entire server. Lets see how it goes. Will update the progress. Thanks Steve (and the folks in the back room!).

Finally, it worked! Turning off mod_security did it. Thanks alot Steve (and the folks in the back room!).

Is it safe to keep it off? Would hate to get injected.

Properly tuning mod_security to work with WordPress (or any CMS, for that matter) is not a job for the faint of heart. I know it can be done, because Dreamhost does it. I have not been able to get it working properly on my own server, however. ??

    Hiya,

Do you know which mod_security rules were enabled for your site, most likely one of the rulesets got updated recently and we’d be able to look up which one and then you could disable the individual rule (and perhaps report upstream that it’s causing headaches)

    Hi Marius,

No, I’m not sure which rules were enabled. This client is using a shared hosting and I’m only allowed access to the cPanel. Is there a way to check this? I’d love to find out how to minimize the security hole by looking up and configuring the rule.

    Hi Steve,

I’m sure it is, but if there is a way, I’d like to figure out how to solve it without turning it off. But awesome that you’ve managed to point out the culprit when I was on the verge of giving up! ??

    it was Clorith’s suggestion. ??

I’m afraid if it’s handled by your host you’ll have to ask them to look into the over aggressive rules, it should say in their logs which rules are triggering.

Check if the host switched to EasyApache 4. That changed the Mod_Security rules for cpanel.
