    have you tried options page at Events > Settings > Pages > Event Pages > Display events as (choose theme templates) ?

    did you assign a category page in Events > Settings > Pages > Categories Page? if so, did you assign the template to the category page you have there (by editing the wp page itself and assinging the template)
