page layout idea

  • not sure if this is the appropriate forum, but i’m looking for some advice on designing a page layout.

    i have a page with a lot of content on it. i’m looking for a way to break up that content but still have it be a part of one page (or seemingly a part of one page).

    two areas on this page that i’d like to create:
    1. this content can be broken up into 6 categories of content. what i’d like to do is have an area at the top of the page with the 6 categories displayed like the feature pages on the homepage with images and a sub heading.
    2. below these 6 links/buttons i’d like to have an area where the designated content is displayed. this area’s content will change depending upon which category/tab is highlighted. also, it’s important to note that the size of the content will be different for each category so it’d be great if i could work out how to make the space responsive to the size of the content.

    i have no idea how to do this. widgets? plugins? i’m sure there’s going to be a combination of a few.

    oh also, i’m using the theme customizr. so when i referred to the “feature pages on the homepage with images and sub heading” i’m referring to something standard with that theme. however, what i’m looking for is using a feature image for each content group and organizing them in a grid at the top of the page.
