    Hi,

Just wanted to report an issue I recently had with the setting for blocking fake google bots. I had to disable it to fix an issue Google was having with my website.

About two weeks ago, I got a notification from Google to say that my homepage had been indexed without content. When I inspected the URL in Google’s index it was showing that it was on Google but with errors and warnings. When I tested the live URL I was getting N/A for everything. Google also rejected my indexing request. A few days after that the sitemap was show empty/no URLs. This was not an issue with my SEO plugin because when I tried to view the sitemap online everything was there, but in Google, testing the live URL returned N/A for everything. Also my meta title and meta description disappeared from my Google listing, even though this information could be seen in the header of the source code.

After a lot of research I decided to check this setting (which I had found out from another forum thread), and when I turned off this setting, cleared the cache (including CDN), and tested both Google index and live URL I got green for everything. I asked Google to reindex the page and the next day the meta title and description were back and the sitemap also returned to normal.

I do not remember enabling the ‘block fake googlebots’ setting (although it has been a few years since i touched any settings in this plugin).

    Thanks in advance,
    Debbie

@debbieweeks2 May I know which AIOS Plugin version you are using on your WP site?

    Hi Prashant,

The version I currently have is 4.4.12.

I would like to know if this is an issue with the AIOS plugin only? I have deactivated the “Block Fake Googlebots” feature until you come back with an answer as I use the plugin mentioned.

Is there a list of SEO plugins this feature works well with?

    Thanks

Is Google indexing the home page with content after disabling the blocking fake Google bot setting?

You said you had seen warnings and errors when you visited your site in the Google inspection tool. May I know which warnings and errors that you have seen? If possible, please give me screenshots too.

Often,? the site owners visit the site with an administrator login. Please visit the site without any login and ensure that you are seeing the proper home page. The Google bot is visiting the site without any login.

The AIOWPS plugin is compatible with major SEO plugins.

@pmbaldha Google is now indexing my page properly after disabling the setting and I am no longer getting any warnings. My google listing is also displaying correctly and my sitemap also no longer has errors.

I do not have screenshots of the warning, because after I disabled the setting the warning disappeared, so I cannot provide this to you. Sorry.

I didn’t say that I had errors when I visited my site. I ws referring to when I inspected the URL in Google Search Console (sorry should have mentioned that). When I visited my site as a visitor the page looked absolutely fine. It actually took me some time to figure out the issue, becuase I couldn’t understand why I was getting this warning when the page looked fine even when viewing as a visitor.

    Thanks,
    Debbie

@poppydev I don’t know if this is just an issue with AIOS plugin. I just know that when I disabled this setting the warning I was getting (when when checking the URL) in Google Search Console stopped appearing (everything was green).

I wouldn’t turn this setting off unless you are getting a warning from Google. If everything in Google Search Console is fine (no errors/warning) you don’t need to change anything.

As for SEO plugins I use Yoast, never had any issues with Yoast.

    Regards,
    Debbie
