I want to export a specific page from site A to site B.
I used the WP exporter and got an XML that seems correct.

When importing I checked the option to import media files to site B but none was imported.

In the XML file they seem to be correctly referenced:

    <a href="https://...redacted.../2017/02/Screenshot-01212017-07-37-53-PM.png"><img src="https://...redacted.../2017/02/Screenshot-01212017-07-37-53-PM-590x400.png" width="590" height="400" /></a>

Those links are correct and are opening the image when using them in a browser.

Is there any problem with this that I can correct?
Is the file type PNG the problem, or else?

  • Hey John!

The WordPress importer doesn’t export attachments like images unless you select to export of all the content. The references will still exist, as you’ve shown. The files themselves won’t be exported.

To get around this, you can follow this guide (look for “Partial Content Movement”). There’s a few steps to follow.

The PNG file format shouldn’t make any difference.

Please let me know if you need any further help!

    Many thanks for this.
    I now understand.
That’s not worth spending so much time for a single page.

    I’ll find another way.

    You’re welcome!

In that case, it may be best to just copy/paste the content from the WordPress Dashboard editor on Site A to the WordPress Dashboard editor on Site B. Then upload the images to Site B wherever you need them to go in the page.

If your question has been answered, it would be great if you would mark this topic as resolved in the sidebar. This helps the forum’s volunteers find the topics that still need attention and more people will get helped, possibly like you did!

    Yes, I did that, thanks!

    Great, you’re welcome!
