I can’t seem to edit any of my pages or posts. Woo-Commerce products can be edited fine! I haven’t updated any plugins or installed anything new on my site I don’t think, since the last time I edited a page:
When I try to do so, I get an error message with 3 links:

The editor has encountered an unexpected error. Attempt Recovery Copy Post Text Copy Error

Attempt Recovery doesn’t seem to help.
Here’s the error. I don’t know how to go about fixing wp-includes!

TypeError: Cannot read property 'addQueryArgs' of undefined

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Thanks, I used the HealthCheck plugin and the problem is still there.

Ok, try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Thanks,

That didn’t help at all. I’m surprised there isn’t a better way to zero in on things that may have changed since this was working only a few days ago and not much has changed since then. I appreciate the help, though!

This is the way, by ruling-out the most likely elements in succession.

We’ve ruled out plugins, themes, and the core files, it’s off to the browser now.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Well, it does work on Microsoft Edge, which it turns out my browser, Brave, did automatically update. I think it I’d known that, I might have started there. But thanks. I’ll try to figure out what’s wrong with Brave browser or switch to Edge.

But why on earth would a browser cause WordPress to have an error that a variable in a WordPress file is not read correctly? I’d like to have some more fundamental understanding so I can figure these things out myself.

Ok, so it loads in Edge and I can start to edit, but then the page randomly reloads when I try to add a new block, or convert a block. I really think this might be an error with the Gutenberg block plugin because WooComerce products work fine.

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

    the Gutenberg block plugin

Which plugin are you using? Are you actually using the “Gutenberg” plugin? If so, don’t. ??

Gutenberg has been built into WordPress since version 5 as the Block Editor. Since then, the Gutenberg plugin is just a test bed for new features and is not guaranteed to be stable by any means.

    Thread Starter Walton

    (@walton)

I’m not. I mean the Gutenberg whatever that system is.

Anyway, now editing pages and posts has ceased working in Edge. All I get is a white screen with no error message. Deactivating all the plugins and themes does nothing and I just downloaded the very latest version of Edge.

I also noticed my media library was loading and not showing images. That appears to be caused by WooCommerce, but deactivating WooCommerce had no effect on editing pages-I only mention this in case it’s helpful for figuring out the post-editor. One problem at a time!

Would you mind elaborating on this? Specifically, why you feel it is WooCommerce, even when deactivating WooCommerce makes no difference?

    Thread Starter Walton

    (@walton)

Deactivating WooCommerce made the media library work again. Not the page/post editor

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Interesting, and have you tried with all browser extensions disabled?

    Thread Starter Walton

    (@walton)

Yes, I don’t have any browser extensions. It’s a brand-new edition of edge.

And now WooCommerce products aren’t editable. When I enter editing, the fields are all blank! This is very odd!

On the other hand, I downloaded Chrome, just to check, and everything seems to work brilliantly. I can edit pages, posts, products on WooCommerce, and the media library appears to be fine! This is very confusing!

It appears that the problem was caused by a browser update and resolved by a later browser update. I had no idea WordPress was so sensitive to browsers. Thanks, James Huff for your help (and putting up with my snark which was not personal)!

Next time, I’ll try some different browsers, including a non-Chromium one before checking the plugins and themes, honestly (I know, I know)! And definitely using that Health Check plugin from now on!
