ALSO page is set in Reading Settings as Post page but no comments box so cannot enter the text as a comment.

Have you created any posts yet?

Also, based on your sitemap (at sitemap_index.xml), it looks like “discussion” is a post, not a page, but you have no other posts. The “discussion” page should be a page, not a post, so delete it, create a new page called “discussion” and assign it as your posts page, then create some posts.

Thanks Steve. It is a page, not a post.

I have deleted it and remade the page again. No change.

Cannot see how to add a comment.

    Hence wits end!

I have twice created a new page called “discussion” and assign it as my posts page. But there seems to be no way to create some posts.

In case an earlier post called discussion was ‘in the way’:

Made a new page called Chat
    Publish
    Visible no problem
    Go to Reading
    Set Posts page to Chat

Text reads: Page for comments and discussion
Text visible says: No results were found. Perhaps searching will help find a related post.

Where could I be going wrong?

    Deactivated all plugins. No change.

    “discussion” is a page. The <body> tag reads <body class="page-template-default page page-id-3190 custom-background">

Once again, DO YOU HAVE ANY POSTS created? What do you see from dashboard->posts.

    Hi. Thanks. Sorry, getting confused.

You wrote: ” based on your sitemap (at sitemap_index.xml), it looks like “discussion” is a post, not a page”

But it is a page. And Chat is a page.

I have a post created in posts. It is not published.

Oooohh! Created a post. Shows up fine. Doh and double doh.

    Thanks again

But how can I put some static text at the top of the page to say, you know, this is a page for comments and discussions, …

    Thread Starter triplemaya

    (@triplemaya)

I thought the whole point of having a page for the comments was so there could be text at the top and comments below. OTHERWISE, what is the point of having a page instead of a post?
I suspect I am missing something basic here.

Still in trouble because there is no box to add comments.

    Allow comments is ticked

    Thread Starter triplemaya

    (@triplemaya)

“Allow people to submit comments on new posts” is ticked

Click on the post’s title and there should be a comments block. Comments are not added to the page that aggregates posts.

    Thread Starter triplemaya

    (@triplemaya)

Thanks. Weird. When I click on the posts title I get the title in caps:

Category: Page for comments and discussion

But when I click on 0 Comments I get the magic comments block. AHA!

But how would someone know to click on that? I did not, clearly! Is there not a better way to do this? How do I make a page that has a comment box as a permanent feature – not requiring someone to get expert help to comment!

    (@triplemaya)

Oh. The page title and comment contents and category are the same. I guess I clicked on the category. I changed the title to ‘Title’ and it is not showing up.
