• This is my first attempt at writing a theme. The customer provided the design, it’s pretty simple. HTML and CSS validates.

The problem: when the page loads everything jumps around like crazy before finally settling down.

It loaded just fine for me. No “hula dance” here. Have tried looking at it with different browsers?

IE 7 seems to be particularly vulnerable.

Oh, good old IE 7. You XHTML is valid, but there’s a problem with your IE-only stylesheet. Try removing the */ at the end of your theme’s ie7.css file.

d’oh! That would have been great if it worked, but it’s still wobbly.

I don’t have a copy of IE 7 to check on, but your XHTML is valid and your CSS is valid, so I’m going to have to blame IE 7 on this one.

I suppose that maybe a plugin is causing the problem, but I highly doubt it, so much so that I am hesitant to even suggest it. Try deactivating all plugins. If your page does not do a “hula dance” with IE 7, then reactivate each one individually until you find the cause. But, again, I highly doubt that will do anything, so much so that I have deleted and re-typed this exact paragraph three times now.

If you can’t find a plugin that’s causing it, which you probably won’t, then I’m just going to have to say shame on IE 7 for not supporting the clean rendering of a design that is 100% XHTML and CSS valid.

Thanks James, but I’m not going to give up that easy. I’m seeing similar behavior with IE8 and FF3.5.9 for PC. Altho I’m using Parallels Desktop, my client says she sees the same thing on her PC native apps. It’s worse with IE7, but still noticeable with the others, including Safari 4.0 and FF3.6.3 for Mac.

It’s just weird the way the page loads. The yellow balls image kind of floats over the banner image, then jumps down into position after doing a hula dance.

I have a feeling it might be a Javascript issue, but haven’t been able to figure it out yet. Going to get some sleep, and maybe it’ll look better in the morning.

    Thanks for listening…

I just checked on my Mac with Safari 4.0.5, Firefox 3.6.3, and Camino 2.0.3. I’m afraid that I just don’t see the “hula dance” that you described. Everything seems to load quickly and seamlessly.

I would have loved to see the hula dance but my IE7 and work loads just fine. Too bad… ??
The page loads in blocks, but I cannot imagine that this is what you meant.
