Page creation, preview, and renaming broken

  • The “Add New Page” feature no longer works. It didn’t work in 3.0.1, and now does not work in 3.0.3, although I am unsure if the breakage happened as a result of the 3.0.1 upgrade, or simply around the same time.

    Symptoms:

    • In “Add New Page”, sometimes the post URL (slug?) that is calculated from the page title is not shown, but even when it is, it is not editable.
    • Clicking “Preview” takes one to /?preview=true off the base URL of my site, which then shows my usual index.php output, with no preview of page.
    • Making it a page, doing the work and preview there, and converting it to a post afterwards does work.</i>

    I also wonder if this could be related to what I presume is a Javascript issue, namely that the checkboxes for “select all” in various parts of the site have no effect. Could one (or more) .js files have become corrupted / deleted / changed permissions / etc?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    – increasing the memory available to PHP?

    @esmi: Thank you! These are very good general, cut-and-pasted suggestions, but we’re talking about a live system, and if someone has seen this precise behavior before, I’d love to not have to go disabling plugins on something a visitor can see.

    Overwriting with new wp files did not work. Also disabled plugins to no effect.

    The theme hasn’t changed.

    So, “up”! Has anyone seen this?
