Page cache is using up too much server space

We have a very large and busy site. After installing the latest version(s), the page cache folder grows to a huge size, 10-15 gb in about a week. I have routinely emptied the cache weekly, which takes a very long time. Why isn’t there a automatic deletion of the old page cache file when a new one is created? This would resolve this problem!
Are there any other options to resolve this now?
