• I love this plugin! You can basically make the tips look any way you want. I’d tried another tooltip plugin where one has to manually add each tooltip on each instance on each page. With this one, just add the tooltip once and it enriches the entire site for the triggering keyword but with the ability exclude pages or instances in a lot of ways.

At first I was having trouble getting the tips to show up on category pages we’d previously modified structurally, but that might have been on my end, as my developer was able to fix it on his own.

The only potential drawback is that my SEO guy tells me that I’m probably not getting SEO credit for the tooltip content for the pages the trigger keywords appear on. It’s not clear if Google can index back into the tooltip rendering code. But at least, you will get site-level SEO credit, as the plug-in also renders each tooltip on it’s own standalone, google-indexable page, as well as rendering a linked glossary page. I’d suggest having a link to the glossary somewhere in your header menu (or footer) to be sure google crawls it.

The only other issue I noticed (not sure if this is a feature or a bug) is that if your tooltip content contains any hard carriage returns (blank lines) the tooltip will not display. At least this is what is happening in my instance. But I just view this as a way to force me to keep my tips compact and to the point.

If the plugin author wanted to be sure the SEO credit would be earned on the page where the tooltip gets displayed, I’d suggest seeing if he could add a checkbox in setup. If checked, the plugin would add the tooltip literally as html using the shortcode method directly into the body text of the pages on which the triggering keyword occurs. This way the tooltip functionality and centralized administration would still work as it does now, but Google would have something to index on the individual page. My SEO guy tells me this will guarantee page-level SEO credit. But already a great plugin as is!
