Can anyone recommend a good plugin for comment notifications? Obviously, I could use Jetpack’s subscribe feature, but I don’t want my blog to be public. Enabling the subscribe feature opens it up to anyone subscribing to it – even if I’ve made it so posts aren’t viewable unless you’re logged in.

    Must-have:

    • Automatically subscribe authors to notifications on their own posts
    • Commenters can click a box to follow up comments when they comment

    It would be nice if…

    • The users could reply by email to reply to the comment

I’ve tried Postmatic and it almost did the trick, but now it has inexplicably stopped working entirely. I’ve tried other plugins but so far, none of the ones I’ve tried will do anything when the commenter checks the box “notify me of follow-up comments”. Why do none of these plugins work when using P2 (or a child theme)?

    Hi keytastic –

This is Elissa from Postmatic support here…I’m curious about what happened on your site while you were using Postmatic.

What functionality did you have when you started using Postmatic? I’d like to confirm that it was, in fact, working properly at the beginning.

    Thanks,
    Elissa

    Hi Elissa,

It most definitely was (half) working before. Authors were getting an email whenever someone commented on their post and replying in email created a threaded comment. That much worked since the beginning, although it is not working now; I’m not receiving an email when someone comments.

Regarding the second half, it does add a checkbox to “Participate in this conversation via email”, but it has never worked.

    Hi keytastic –

I saw that you currently have a support ticket in our system and that you’ve working with Jason on this.

I recommend that you continue the discussion there so that any issues specific to your site can be addressed.

    Thanks,
    Elissa
