Overwrite SKU with csv import

The CSV you are importing, did you create it from scratch or did you exported it from the site, modified, and imported it back?

Can you share screenshots of the import settings you chose? I recommend using https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

Furthermore, I’d like to understand your site properly. Please share with us the necessary information below for us to investigate the issue further:

System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support.
Fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs. Then you can use the selector to search for Fatal Errors.

Thank you for your reply. I did continue working on this after I posted yesterday. Following is the process:

• I had exported all of the products from our live site, and segmented the CSV file in google sheets by categories.
• Those file were edited with updated sort descriptions, long descriptions and images. In many cases, the SKU was updated to include the MPN. The product ID was not changed.
• I have been uploading the files to our test site to see if there are any glitches. I uploaded theCSVs to our site, and used the advanced import function in a variety of settings. See this image: https://snipboard.io/w1Bnl5.jpg
• Here is what the error log looked like after trying to import the file with the SKU and ID numbers included: https://snipboard.io/Fox8q2.jpg
• I then imported the referenced file but didn’t include the ID or SKU columns. and that actually worked.
• I did import a different CSV with no issues.

I am pasting the status report from the test site below. I didn’t see anything about fatal errors in the log.

Hey, @susinpgh! Thanks for the information.

First, on the report, I see your database is outdated. This can cause a lot of issues on the website.

Please update it by either following the warning message a the top of the page on WooCommerce area of the dashboard or going to WooCommerce > Status > Tools > Update Database.

Be sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. You can ask your host for backup functionality or you can consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, you will be able to restore it.

To be sure, after updating it, can you check if the issue persists?

If it does, lets investigate this further to find out what is going on.

• I see that only five products were invalid. Were those the only products you modified? If not, is there anything on those 5 products that is different from the ones that were imported/updated?
• Can you share a screenshot of those products on the CSV file so we can see how they are added?

Sorry for the delay in my response. We are a very small company, and I wear many, many hats. I updated the database before i conducted this trial. This is the settings that I used to import the products. Please note that there are eight products in the file: https://snipboard.io/pyTlCH.jpg

Thanks for sharing further details.

Those file were edited with updated sort descriptions, long descriptions and images. In many cases, the SKU was updated to include the MPN. The product ID was not changed.

If you’re trying to overwrite existing SKUs with the MPNs, you’ll need to ensure that the MPNs are unique and that you’re using the correct column header in your CSV file.

Some products were skipped because they don’t exist, and you’ve chosen to update only existing products.

However, could you please edit the SKU column only and try importing again? Remember to format the column before you save and download it.

If you’re still encountering issues, we would appreciate it if you could share the CSV file with us. This will allow us to test it from our end.

Additionally, you can try importing using an advanced import plugin, such as All in All Import or WooCommerce Product CSV Import Suite.
