Overwrite existing destination site

    Hi all,

    my devSite is prepared for migrating to the liveSite (destination). The destination is still running with “old” content.

    Question:
    Will Migrate Guru overwrite “everything” at the destination? Or do I really have to remove all the old content / DB manual and install a fresh new WP at the destination before I migrate there?

  • I am not an expert and my advice is only based on my own experience. I’ve moved twice and always used a fresh WordPress installation. It definitely works. I cannot say whether there will be conflicts if the target is hosting an old installation. To be on the safe side, I would prefer a new installation. It should be worth the effort. It should be a cleaner solution because it avoids unnecessary junk and data garbage.

    Hey Knut!

    Thank you for reaching out to us.

    We do not delete files from the destination server. We will replace the entire Database with that of the source website but if there are files present on the destination server that are not on the source site, we will not be deleting those.

    Our recommendation would be to do a Fresh WordPress installation as that way you’re migrating to a completely blank setup.
