• From all the activity monitoring plugins I have tested so far, this one has by far the most extensive feature set. This can be great if you are a geek, but for most users this is simply overwhelming. On the other hand, a huge part of this functionality is only available in the paid version, which is heavily advertized, and that is overwhelming as well. If you only plan to use the free version, then there are several better options. I’m not the guy who expects that everything must be free, but the amount of advertizing in this plugin is simply too much.

    P.S. Hiding the plugin from the list of installed plugins by default makes no sense – except to make it more difficult for inexperienced users to get rid of the plugin. Very bad practice.

    Our plugins are some of the most feature-rich available in their respective categories. This is especially true for WP Activity Log, which enjoys comprehensive logging capabilities both in terms of breadth and depth.

    Having said that, we try our best to make sure they remain accessible and make frequent UI and UX improvements to ensure they can be used by anyone. We also include wizards wherever possible to make the setup and configuration of the plugin as easy as possible. Documentation and customer support are also available to all of our customers, irrespective of which version they are using.

    With regards to advertising, the premium version of WP Activity Log has no advertising other than on the Help & Contact Us page, which only advertises our other plugins.

    In regards to the plugin being hidden, the plugin is not hidden from the list of installed plugins by default. This is an option that must be specifically enabled by the administrator. You / someone from your team might have installed the plugin before and enabled this setting. We do include an option to delete all settings upon uninstallation.

    Hi Robert,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I have tested your plugin once again on a fresh WordPress 6.2.2 installation. I can confirm that here the plugin is not hidden.

    Regarding the advertising for the premium version however I see things differently:

    • There is a huge banner on top of the ?Log Viewer? page.
    • The pages ?Email Notifications?, ?Create Reports?, ?Log Search?, ?Logged In Users? and ?Integrations? don’t have any functionality at all in the free version but are exclusively promoting the premium version.
    • Last but not least there is the ?Upgrade? link in bright green.

    So I think it’s fair to say that 7 out of 10 navigation items your plugin adds to the WordPress backend either contain advertising or are pure advertising. That’s what I call overwhelming.

    Thank you for getting back to us Martin. Indeed, those are all advertising pages however, none of them are intrusive and disruptive. None of them “get in the way” when you want to do something, mainly view the logs.

    However, you are also entitled for an opinion, and if you find them overwhelming, I am sorry to hear that. We appreciate your feedback and will definitely be looking into ways how to also improve that.

    Having said that, it is important to note that they do not interfere with the user journey in the plugin, so in terms of functionality, they do not affect the plugin.

    It doesn’t deserve 2 stars and the review here isn’t fair. We use the free version and it does what we need it to. No extra advertising. Nothing bothersome. They even added the ability to search the log for free.
