Overwhelmed with spam

  • Despite have a CAPTCHA code in place, I am overrun with spam messages and messages telling me I have new users.

    Not sure what version of WordPress I’m on, but it’s been a while since it was updated.

    Are you aware that using outdated versions is a major security risk? Have you checked as to whether your site has been hacked?

    step 1. Change the wp admin password

    step 2. activate word fence security plug in. great plug in to scan security risks and errors.

    you would know harmful content/links on your website and you would be able to remove them.

    step 3. back up your site and update your wordpress version.

    OK I’m updated to the latest version of WordPress and my various plug-ins.

    But I’m still getting loads of spam and lots of fraudulent “new user” registrations.

    I did the scan with sitecheck and it said nothing found.
