    Hello,

when I have a pdf file in Google Drive.
    Let’s call it “test.pdf”.
Can I create a new pdf with the same Name, override the existing “test.pdf” and now the new one is embeded?
In my test it did not work.
Looks like Google uses an internal Name for the document.
Is there a way to accomplish what I am trying to do?

That way I can update pdfs and don’t have to change anything on my WordPress Site.

    Thank you
    Tibse

  • Tibse,

Thank you for your post. This should be possible with native Google documents – e.g. a Google Document or Sheet – so you might want to consider changing to one of those formats and making your updates there. The new content should show up automatically in the embed.

But I think you are right: if you delete a PDF in Drive and then replace it with a different PDF of the same name, it will have a different ID in Drive so the embed will not change.

However, you could try overwriting the PDF file on your desktop computer, and using the Google Drive Client to sync the changes. That could well ‘fool’ Google Drive into accepting the new file that you’ve copied straight on top of the old version.

    Details here: https://www.google.co.uk/drive/download/

I hope this helps. Please let us know what you find! I may not personally pick up further replies to this thread, so if you have any questions please email [email protected].

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

thank you very much. That works like a charm. Great plugin.

I just have to update the pdfs in the drive for windows folder.

    No resetting any links anymore.

    Best regards
    Tibse

Great to hear – thank you for letting us all know!
