    One solution might be to do the following:

    1. Add a wrapper <div> around the countdown timer in HTML.
    2. Create a background image (e.g. red clock and “not available” text) and set it as the background of the wrapper, via CSS.
    3. Set a background colour on the standard timer <div>, via CSS.

    This way, when the timer itself doesn’t appear, the custom background image will show through instead.
