I’ve got a list of news articles on an athlete’s site, and although most of the articles are housed within WordPress, some are on WNBA.com, and I’d like to be able to link directly to outside article from within the news list (WNBA.com specifically prohibits people from re-posting their content, hence the need for this).

My issue is pretty neatly summed up in this thread:

I need to do what the original poster described – and it sounds like this MIGHT be possible if I set a special class or custom field or place the ‘outside’ items in their own category. I did send a message to the WP-Pro list about this, but it would be great to have some advice to know how to go about this… I’m all for learning things on my own.

I’m finalizing this site now and this is kind of an important function for me to have, so any advice is greatly appreciated!

  • There is a plugin… I just have to remember where to find it. I guess it’s called Redirectify.

    Yep. Redirectify will do it:

When you make a post, if you give it a custom field of “redirect” with the URL of the link as the value, then this plugin will redirect clicks to the single post page to your new URL.

thanks for all the quick replies… Moshu also got back to me about this in the WP-Pro mailing list. Once again, I’m amazed (and RELIEVED) to learn about yet another fantastic plug-in that does exactly what I need it to do.

    Thank you so much…
