“Out of Memory” Error Code
-
I am using WebP Converter for Media to convert all images to Webp in the /uploads folder using the via .htaccess (recommended) setting.
Every time I try to Force Convert images it fails with an “aww snap – Out of Memory” error.
I have tried disabling all plug ins, but it made no difference.
If barely gets past 50%.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as it looks like a really awesome plug-in!

Hello @fixya,
Thanks for your message.
How many images do you have to convert? This problem occurs with slower computers and a large number of images to be converted.
In case of such a problem, restart the conversion, but without selecting the “Force convert all images again” option. Then the plugin will convert the remaining images and by running the process several times you should be able to convert all files.
Best,
MateuszThank you Mateusz,
I have 248 images in the Media library but there seems to be more images than that that are getting processed (I copied the output into excel and there are more than 250 lines / images).
CPU: i7-7700HQ, 16GB ram.
I watched the Ram use in W10 and it didn’t seem to be particularly high.Nevertheless, I am trying your suggestions right now and will report back once complete.

With forcing ‘off’:
First pass was very quick and completed with no errors.
Second pass crashed.
Third pass completed successfully but with ‘unknown errors’:
An unknown error occurred while converting the images: ["/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-2-628x1024.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-2-768x1252.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-2-unsmushed.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-2.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-100x350.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-1012x900.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-1024x585.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-1024x900.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-10x350.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-10x900.png"] An unknown error occurred while converting the images: ["/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-1160x665.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-1220x900.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-122x900.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-12x900.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-150x15.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-150x150.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-150x200.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-150x300.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-15x300.png","/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-1x900.png"] Error occurred while converting image: "/var/www/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ehab_unicorn_thoughts_beliefs-3-37030x200.png".
Fourth pass: Successful
Fifth pass: Unnecessary (i.e., ‘instant’) – it appears that all images have been successfully processed.
Thank you for your help thus far!
I have a related question:
Now that all images have been successfully processed, when I go to view the website on a different browser (ie firefox), I still see that the main image at the header of the page is ‘jpeg’.
eg:
https://mi-psych.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/photo-1464621922360-27f3bf0eca75-FOR-BLOG.jpgShould this now not be a WebP file?

@fixya Your images are loaded from the CDN server, not from the server where the WordPress files are stored. This solution will not work properly.
See the plugin FAQ for more information about the CDN.
I have the same issue but a lot more pictures to convert. Would it work if i convert them first on my computer (with xnconvert) and conserving your naming structure then upload in the webp directory.
I m using a cdn but will desactivate as the benefit of webp seems greater@jeanseb2019 Can you make a video showing what exactly the problem is?
it s just the problem described in the original post. I have done your suggestion but it ll takes too many times to achieve 100%. I have a real estate website with really many photos. I ll try my idea on just a few and let you know if it work tomorrow morning (it s 3am atm)
@jeanseb2019 Where is this error displayed? Can you take a screenshot?
Sure i ll do that tomorrow. Fyi, i have over 12,000 items in my media library
Hi, this morning I did both add the webp files by FTP (2021 folder) and used the pluggin.
The manual transfer as it started from older folders. The manual transfer worked. I could see the browser serving the wepb.
The plugin also worked well this morning, it converted the other folders ok without the error messages I had the previous days ( which I had after only 3 % of the process). I am unsure why. I desactivated the litespeed plugin that I used for the CDN. It might be a reason as I was playing with other optimizing settings.Anyway, thank you for your time and this very nice plugin. I ll probably try AVIF when you open the option.
@jeanseb2019 Thank you for the information. Did you convert all the images, right?
I first did the test with the manual upload after converting with xnview. The homepage was displaying a lot of webp files (checked with developer tools on chrome and pageinsight). then i activated the plugin to see if the pb with stability was still there.
At the time i posted this morning it went smoothly but i only reached 12%.
I realized after that the 2019 folder i had success with before didn t show the webp anymore.I ll finish to upload all the webp files then try again by desactivating/ reactivating. it works i ll leave it as it. If not i ll force convert all from the plugin.
All good now. There was a weird behavior where the website was showing wepb then it all went back to jpg. Then back again after multiple refresh but not for all the pages. It went stable after I activate litespeed cache again. I am not a pro with worpress so I don t really understand. I feel I wasted a lot of time because the site has too many photos. Anyway, it worked at the end (manual upload). The conversion with the plugin might have taken the same time I feel as I had to convert the files in the proper name format. I ll switch completely to webp when it s more common. Meanwhile, this plugin is very useful to keep both new format and old ones. Thanks!
