• OT, but I hope ok to post.

I’m wondering if there is an Ultimate Members Users Group somewhere – or if anyone would be interested in CREATING one.

    Here’s why I ask.

It seems that there are many bright, creative, enthusiastic users of Ultimate Member and that we could benefit from sharing ideas and solutions with each other.

However, there doesn’t seem to be a centralized place where we can do the sharing.

    • This forum is for support requests for the free plugin. We can’t really use this.
    • The Ultimate Member forum is closed for new topics. (Not sure why.)
    • The Trello board isn’t really structured to allow such sharing.

(I’m loving Trello, so maybe we could create a new board for a user group.)

    Thoughts?

  • Excellent idea. If you set it up, please let me know. I just joined your mailing list.

    Good idea.

I tried to lobby Calum a few times to bring back the Ultimate Member forums for this purpose, with no success. It is a real shame how Ultimate Member has gone from something buzzing to almost radio silence in a year. Bit disappointing and frustrating particularly for those of us that are paid subscribers.

    rt.

Does feel like it’s been abandoned.

We’ve switched away because of a serious problem we have with it but it does seem like it appeared in a blaze of glory and then fizzled out.

I don’t think it has been abandoned. The plugin is generating over $20K/month in revenue from extensions and priority support:

I suspect that they are struggling with working out a way to provide enough support. You cannot please everyone. Calum was probably overly generous with support in the early days, so he may have simply scaled back to a more sustainable level.

The plugin is very feature-rich, which also makes it complicated to configure given the number of settings. This inevitably leads to support needs. Similarly, because it is so fundamental to the architecture of most sites that use it, it will inevitably have conflicts with other plugins and themes.

I hope those that want the plugin to succeed will offer to lend a hand. I try to help these guys out in this forum when I have the time.

    Best regards,
    Rob

I think having a forum is a great idea. We recently purchased Ultimate Member and have no problem with support provided by Ultimate Member

It’s a shame but they are adding features all the time but not ones that have been requested.

We ended up using a different plugin as with Ultimate Member if someone click search without putting anything in the search box then EVERY member is returned as the result.

Lots of people have complained to them about this but they just don’t fix it.

We used UPME which has a checkbox in the settings for not allowing blank searches.

We can’t launch a new directory site with UM as who would join as site if they saw it only had a handful of members? It would put people off.

Surely the search function was not the only reason for changing because that could possibly be overcome with a relatively small code change at child theme level by intercepting the search button check the fields and return an error.

We tried but we’re not developers and it was easier to just switch to a platform that did it already.
