    Hi,

I’m using Orvis on a self-hosted site. All good, but……

I would like to be able to display info in the sidebar before main content when viewing on a mobile device. At present, all content displays first, and once at the bottom of the page we see the sidebar content. As I’m putting custom menus in the sidebar often, I’d like them to display first when on mobile. Also, it would be great to be able to affect this on a page-by-page basis with custom CSS for each page. I have a plugin running for this.

    Here’s a link:

    Thanks for any help.

  • Hi there,

To do something like this you’d want to use conditional statements, in addition to CSS – so that the display will vary depending on different circumstances – in this case, based on different media queries settings. Mobble is a plugin that allows for control like this. And for more info on how to accomplish this, please see this article: https://wpsites.net/web-design/conditional-tags-mobile-devices/

    Hi @essbeeay,

Did you try the suggestions posted on this thread and here? I’ll be happy to help if you let me know how far you’ve got.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I have to admit, I got side-tracked taking the site live and didn’t come back to this. Thanks dbking for the suggestion and siobhyb for checking back in. It looks like Mobble could be the solution to my problem, but I’m going to have to go through some pain working on conditional tags.

Also siobhyb, I know I’m meant to ask this in a separate post, but I’ve not had much luck elsewhere. I just want social links at the bottom of pages on the site I’ve made to open in a new window, but am not sure where to change this. Any ideas?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Scott,

Also siobhyb, I know I’m meant to ask this in a separate post, but I’ve not had much luck elsewhere. I just want social links at the bottom of pages on the site I’ve made to open in a new window, but am not sure where to change this. Any ideas?

Sure! Head to Appearance > Menus in your WordPress admin area and then choose your social menu from the “Select a menu to edit:” dropdown menu.

Select the arrow next to each social menu to expand its options and then check the option to “Open link in a new tab.” Save your changes once done. ??

Let me know if that helps out or if you have any extra questions.

Thanks for the advice. I followed those instructions but don’t have the checkbox to open links in a new tab.

    I posted a screen-grab here:

    Hi Scott,

The checkbox will display if you first navigate to Appearance > Menus, click the Screen Options tab in the upper right, and then check the box next to Link Target. ??

    Fantastic!!

Thank you again. Amazingly simple, but so difficult to get an answer until now.

You’re most welcome! That one’s definitely not obvious until you know how. ??
