    Hi All,
So this plugin is supposed to duplicate the post so the original stays online while you edit the new version. It is not doing that for us, instead it makes the duplicate (I believer) and the original is taken offline. This yields a 404 Error when a user tried to go to that page. This makes the plugin almost useless. What am I missing.

Oh, this: current versions of WP and the plugin, no page builder in use just the native block system. Only exotic plugins are WP Recipe Maker, Feast, MailPoet 3, Web Stories, WP Rocket, and a few more technical plugins.

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Hi @ericleesmith

Are you using the ‘clone’ or the ‘rewrite & republish’ feature in the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin?

If you were to clone a published post, it would create a new draft with the same copy. The published post should still be accessible.

If you were to use the rewrite & republish feature, it would still create a new draft with the same copy (Draft, Rewrite & Republish of -), and when you click on the ‘republish’ button after making the changes, it should overwrite and republish it under the same slug. But the original post should still be accessible and shouldn’t load any 404 errors.

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict, is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty.

Please test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

Could you test this with a default WP theme (e.g. TwentyTwenty) and only the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin and see if you are still able to replicate the issue?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have done what you suggested and now I can’t reproduce the error. Software!

    Thanks,

    Eric
