    Hi @kylecassaday,

    Free version of Smush will not optimize the original image, it will only optimize thumbnails of your images.
    Since most of the themes and plugins register their own thumbnails this is enough in most cases.
    Pro version of the plugin does optimize full size image as well and has an option to save a backup of the image before processing it.
