    Hi all,
I need a bit of help with organizing my categories within WooCommerce.
    Currently, it’s quite a mess:
I have one Parent category and several sub-categories.
When you look at my shop page (https://culturematters.com/welcome-to-the-culture…/… ) I see the Parent category (Culture Matters + logo) and (!) all the sub-categories as well.
I’d like to ONLY see the Parent category when you go to the shop page and only when you click on that, you will see the sub-categories.
How do I do that? Or what am I missing?
    Thanks!

  • Hi @chrissmit!

To achieve what you want, you would need to set just one Parent Category, in this case, Culture Matters Shop, and then, set the other categories (audio, books, etc) as a subcategory of that one.

By doing this, once you enter your shop page, you will see just one category first, Culture Matters Shop, and once you click on it, all the other subcategories will appear.

To do this, please go to Products > Categories and create the Cultural Matters Shop category, with no Parent Category and selecting the Subcategories option on the Display type field.

Once you do this, click the Edit button on the subcategories you already have (audio, books, etc), and on the Parent Category field, select the Cultural Matters Shop category. Repeat this step with each category you have.

Finally, go to each product you have, select the Edit option and on the Product Categories section, select the subcategory of the product and the main category, Cultural Matters Shop. You would have to repeat this step with each product you have.

And you are all set ??

Let us know how it goes for you!

    Hi,

I did exactly what you suggested. As a matter of fact, it was already exactly as you described.

Still, I see all my sub-categories on my Shop page, plus (this was the case already) I see the Parent category twice on the Shop page.

    What to do now?

    Thanks.

    Hi @oaoyadeyi

    The video that you suggested is really old. The person recording the video is using a version of WP older than 4.4.2;
    We’re currently on 5.8!
The setup and layout of widgets have totally changed.

Again, I see the main Parent category twice on my Shop page. Plus all the sub-categories.

I just and only want to see the Parent category once. While after clicking on it, it should show the sub-categories.

    Hello there,

It looks like the categories are automatically being added, it looks like the parent category is also being added to the page content.

Can you please check if the main category is being (extra) added to the shop page?

Let us know if there are any questions.

    Darn…
    It’s fixed!

I had [product_categories] on the Shop page. Which of course forced to display all categories.

    Thanks for the help!

Glad to hear it – thanks for letting us know!
