Orders coming in as 'by Guest'

  • I am using WooCommerce 2.4.5 and WordPress 4.3 and since I have updated to 2.4.5, it seems around that time that I have had issues with my ‘PayPal for WordPress’ plugin and WooCommerce coming back with correct information. I receive orders through paypal yet my orders say pending. Also, my PayPal Invoice # is not the same as my WooCommerce invoice #, as it used to be. Also, for the past 36 hours, I have had a 90% rate of orders coming through as ‘by Guest’ and not receiving any information as to who the customer is, and they all end up pending payment.

    I’m not sure if you’re using the PayPal plugin in core, but if orders are pending then either;

    1. The IPN is not pinging your store for updates
    2. Customers are not payment (this leaves pending order in system until cleaned).

    Regardless of the above, the checkout page should still capture user info so maybe you’re not using PayPal standard..?

    Well, I talked to PayPal and they suggested we use ‘PayPal for WooCommerce’ since it was by one of their authorized developers. We had been having issues with PayPal Standard through WooCommerce and receiving about a 40% pending rate, no matter what changes were made. What changes would need to be made in order to get the IPN to ping my store? We had been receiving orders perfectly until 2.4.5 and around that time or shortly after then, is when we had several orders come through as ‘by Guest’ pending and no transaction clearing; or ‘by Guest’ or by a person’s name and we receive the money in PayPal yet the order never turns into Processing.

    I’m not familiar with the code of “PayPal for WooCommerce” so I cannot really recommend anything. We have a partnership with PayPal; not sure why they would recommend anything but the one in core..
