Order status not changing to “Completed” after label purchase

I understand you are facing an issue where “Mark this order as complete and notify the customer” is not changing the status of the order from Processing to Complete.

Just for the record, I am adding a screenshot here that you shared in a different thread.

To troubleshoot this issue, could you enable the Debug and Loging as described in this guide? After that try updating the status of any order using that Checkbox button.

If there are any internal errors or bugs, they will show up in the log.
You can access it at WooCommerce → Status → Logs.

Find logs related to the WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin and share them with me.

I can see that there is one notice in the log about State being empty.

I want to confirm whether “Mark this order as complete and notify the customer” is not working for all the orders or just specific ones.

Also, is this notice about empty State appearing on all orders or just this one?

Based on the site’s System Status Report (SSR), it is a multi-site, and the WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin appears twice in the Active plugin list. This is odd.

To clarify, do you see it appearing twice in the live/production site also, or otherwise? Additionally, is the production site part of a multisite, as well?

I went ahead with testing this, on a standalone and multisite test site of mine, without facing any issue in using the Complete button. Moreover, the WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin was activated on a per-site basis, not network-activated, and appeared once in the site’s System Status Report (SSR).

The live site is also multisite, and I do see that the plugin is listed twice in the status report. However, the actual plugin screen only shows one instance of the plugin in both staging and live. I’ll do more testing tomorrow to see if I can narrow down any other changes after enabling HPOS.

As you plan to do more testing, please check if the plugin is network activated or activated per site. If it’s network activated, try deactivating and then reactivating it on a per-site basis to see if this resolves the issue.

If the issue persists, you may try disabling all other plugins except WooCommerce and WooCommerce Shipping & Tax to see if there’s a conflict.

It appears that there’s an issue with the HPOS ‘order pending sync’ that caused the problem. I’m not sure why, after several weeks with HPOS enabled, that “Sync X pending orders” keeps popping up in the Order Data Storage section. Same problem here – I thought it was an upgrade to WooCommerce that caused this, not the HPOS setting for me. But watching this thread with interest.

After monitoring for several days, it appears that the recurring ‘pending orders’ was the cause of the status not changing. I’ve opened a separate ticket to get help understanding why there’s a recurring appearance of orders that need to be synced, although HPOS is enabled with ‘compatibility’ mode disabled. So, this ticket can be closed.
