Order status being changed due to an "incorrect" phone number

Here’s a fun one for you! Not sure if this is an OT or a WC issue, but since I’m not using WC for anything other than running OT, I’m going to start by asking you!
I am seeing the status of orders being changed automatically, apparently due to an allegedly wrongly entered telephone number in the customer’s billing address. I say allegedly because the phone number in question is correctly formatted according to how we usually write UK mobile numbers (ie, xxxxx xxxxxx).
The order status starts off as completed, but then after a while gets changed to “pending payment” with this message added to the Order Notes: Your current settings require you to provide most billing information for each order. Order status changed from Completed to Pending Payment.
Even more odder is that it will also change the status of cancelled orders, adding: Your current settings require you to provide most billing information for each order. Order status changed from Cancelled to Pending Payment.
There also appears a message above the order details which says “Billing Phone must be a valid phone number”
Like I said, this may well be a WC bug, but I thought I’d give you first dibs!
