Order number changes after modyfying order

My client is using sequential orders module.
When he had to modify the order that was in the “processing” stage he noticed a bug.
After he changed order status to “on hold” the order number changed. When he changed it back to “processing”, the order number changed again.
This is a big problem because these orders are synchronized with an accounting platform and they can never change.
Please release a fix for that. It is very important.
