• So what happens if a client orders something from my site, then deletes their data, then makes an enquiry or complaint about the order.
How am I supposed to deal with this if there is no longer any data about that customer? Does it keep a record of the user deleting their data?

  • Hi there!

    Excellent question.
Remember that the right to be forgotten is not absolute. If there is a contract with the client, depending on your local laws, you might need to keep some of the data for a period of time – for example, invoice details. If you have another good reason for storing the data and not deleting it – for example, handling warranties or problems with the purchase – then you also do not need to delete the data, at least not immediately.

However, depending on the nature of what you’re selling, perhaps just the order number is enough to solve the client’s problems. In general, this is a bit of a gray area at the moment and I’m still working on getting the full picture on ecommerce.

To answer your 2nd question, as of right now, the plugin doesn’t log deletion requests, but we will add this feature in an upcoming release as it’s quite important.

I have an ecommerce-related blog post coming up at some point which answers questions like these, but it’s going to take a bit of time.

    Hope this helps!
