Order Carousel by Custom Content Type?

I have a carousel for events. The events are custom content types (Advanced Custom Fields). The event performance date is often different from the publish date. e.g. Performance for May 1 (custom content date feild) was published on March 20 (wordpress publish date).

Is it possible to sort carousel by a custom content type? (date field)

I’ve seen mention of orderby in the shortcode. Can further documentation on this or other sorting

wcp-carousel id=”22054″ orderby=”event_start_date”] <– this is the name of my custom content type. Something like this possible?
