I guess this is more of a feature request – but it’s not necessarily best practice to just throw every single 404 to your homepage. I know you can redirect 404s to a custom page, but many times sites will get 404s where there is no ‘related’ page/category/post to redirect to and in that case would it not be best practice to leave as 404 and let it die? Is is possible to get something like this included in the plugin feature set?

    Thanks

    Hi fanalejr,

Thank you for your suggestion ??

From next version onwards, you will be able to set 404 status code in the custom redirect. So that the server will return 404 statuses, still visitors will be able to see the page you set.

Anyway, I will consider for a new feature to skip redirect for specific pages like you suggested.

    Hi @fanalejr,

Thank you for your patience. I have an update coming up. Will you be able to help me to test it? Please find the new version here – https://github.com/DuckDev/404-to-301

Joel – that’s great! Thank you – we’ll try to get it up on our staging server tomorrow and test it out. Thanks
