I prefer to have a single version of each page, manually putting in language short codes just around the text that needs to be translated, not any of the other markup. Using the language switchers changes the entire text box, so I’d need to maintain two copies of every page. What I’m currently doing is composing with the plugin deactivated and then enabling it when I’m done, that way I can work on just a single version of the page code. It would be great to have this as an option, keeping the plugin enabled but disabling the editing features and relying solely on language short codes.

This would also solve all your page builder problems as you would give an option not to override the editor and just instruct people to use short codes.
