Optimize wordpress sites

  • Hi,

    I′m building 6 sites in wordpress:
    – A small local newspaper
    – A local magazina
    – A places directory
    – A simple blog
    – A buddypress comunity
    I want to optimize my sites all that i can without losing a lot of the features.
    I was thinking about getting a dedicated server to serve them.
    I estimate that i′m going to have around 40.000 unique visitor and around a 400.000 pageviews/month in total (all sites, not on a site).

    Will this server do?
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Dual Core
    RAM4 GB DDR2Hard disc2 x 400 GB SATA II

    I don′t know if there is some sort of calculation i could do to figure this out.

    I can post here a more specific details about my sites performance in terms of queries:

    Newspaper – Homepage: 128 Valid queries. None slow, none invalid – Memory: 36.6MB.
    Newspaper – Articles: 147 Valid queries. None slow, none invalid -Memory: 35.5MB.

    Magazine – Homepage: queries: 135, none defective, none > 0.500 sec. Memory: 28.7MB
    Magazine – Articles: queries: 130, none defective, none > 0.500 sec. Memory: 28.8MB

    Places directory – Homepage: DB queries: 471, 3 defective, 0 slow (> 0.500 sec) Memory: 37.3MB
    Places directory – Articles:DB queries: 220, 3 defective, 0 slow (> 0.500 sec) Memory: 34.2MB

    Buddypress:- DB queries: 191, 1 defective, 0 slow (> 0.500 sec) Memory: 28.9MB

    Hi James,
    Thanks for the link, but it dosen’t really answer my question.

    I already know about optimizing, queries, minify, and all that.
    I′m already running w3tc and caching everything i can. The sites get good grades in yslow but still need more optimization.
    I do intend on making my sites the best they can be in this areas, but…does this server work for what i want? To much power? Need more ram?

    So,

    I got myself a dedicated server with this configuration:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 + Dual Core
    Memory 6 GB DDR2
    Hard Drive2 x 750 GB SATA II
    (Software RAID 1) NIC 1 GBit OnBoard – 100 Mbps connection

    Will post my results here.
