I have tested the code, and it works. However, the url path becomes https://mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/delightful-downloads/something.pdf – which I find a bit clunky.

I was hoping it would stay as “https://mydomain.com/?ddownload=2614”.

Is that possible?

Using the code linked in the previously mentioned topic should format the URLs correctly:

function download_new_tab( $styles ) {

	$styles['new_tab'] = array(

	);

	return $styles;
}

Then use the following shortcode:

[ddownload id="123" style="new_tab"]

Oh, Ashley, I’ve tried every which way to get this to work. The issue is that I briefly see “https://mydomain.com/?ddownload=2614” in my new tab in the browser (yay) but then it instantly redirects the page to “https://mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/delightful-downloads/something.pdf” ??

This is only an issue when I set DD to open in the browser. When I download to the user’s hard disk, it nicely displays “https://mydomain.com/?ddownload=2614” in the browser while it gives you the download to your pc window.

If you like, I can private message you with admin access to my test site so you can have a look for yourself?

Hi Jana,

That’s current the correct behaviour for when you have the option to open the file within the browser. This will be fixed in the next release, so the links will show as “https://mydomain.com/?ddownload=2614”.

No. This feature has been put back to another release, as it’s not an easy fix.

I would happily settle on being able to change the Upload Directory to a newly created subdirectory of my root directory, e.g. https://mydomain/downloads.

Is that a possible work-around?

Currently under Advanced Settings, I cannot do this. (All “/” characters are stripped away if I attempt to enter the full URL).

That’s not something that is supported nor is it something I plan on implementing as it deviates from the WordPress conventions.

What’s the reason for using such a path?

I just want something simpler than “https://mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/delightful-downloads/something.pdf” or “https://mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/something.pdf”. The “uploads/downloads” bit is rather ridiculous, and I don’t particularly like displaying the WordPress content path.

By the way, I just found this post on how to change the downloads URL in WordPress … perhaps it’s worth trying out on a test copy of my website.

I would appreciate your further comments or suggestions.

Rewrite rules might be another option:
