Open to suggestions

OK, I will try to explain this as best I can. Our Academy website is running on the latest WordPress, hosted on our own web server, and we use iFeature Pro as our theme. We will soon be taking whole school photos (instead of an outside company coming in). We are more than capable in terms of equipment etc to do our own photography, but here is where I was hoping to gain some good suggestions please.

We want to be able to upload the school photos to our website and have students / parents to be able to login and view their photo prior to placing an order / downloading prints. Each of our students have a regular network login so I think maybe LDAP Authentication maybe the way to go but not sure. We only want each student to be able to ONLY see their photo, so there will be some permissions issues which will need setting up. I wondered if anyone could offer suggestions / advice on which maybe the best way forward, if indeed it is possible.
