I see in the documentation that the “Redirect to File” on PDF Files will in most cases allow the user to view the PDF in the browser. When we use this option, we are redirected to the folder, but the PDF does not open in the browser.

This is the URL that we’re redirected to (which is a Page Not Found):
    /wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/2019/09/file-name.pdf

Of note, the dlm_upload file is using permissions 755.

Without this option selected, the file correctly downloads as a PDF.

What are we not understanding correctly about this functionality?

  • Hello,

Our plugin is designed to secure a file from direct access and serve it as a download. To be able to open it directly in the browser, you would first need to upload the file using the “Media” menu in WordPress. This removes any protection added by our plugin.

Then add the file URL to our download and set the “Redirect to File” option so it opens the file directly in the browser.

I hope that answers your query. Let us know if you have any further questions.
