• My theme is TwentyFoureen. I have a Flash (SWF) banner in the sidebar. I did not upload the SWF file, it is a link. When clicking on the Flash banner the link opens in a popup. How to I get it to open in a new tab? My HTML is limited but I read somewhere I need to include getURL(“XXX”, “_blank”); Any idea where exactly this needs to go? If it is wrong, how do I get the link to open in a new tab when clicking on the banner? I tried targe’=_blank but it is not working.

    This is the SWF banner, I blanked out the link details:

    <object width="160" height="600" classid="clsid:XXX" codebase="https://XXX.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=4,0,2,0"><param name="movie" value="//XXX.swf?clickTag=https://XXX&clickTAG=https://XXX" ><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><embed src="//XXX.swf?clickTag=https://XXX&clickTAG=https://XXX" quality="high" wmode="transparent" pluginspage="https://www.XXX.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="160" height="600" allowscriptaccess="always"/></object>

    I am using taget=_blank for GIF files and they work fine. Just this SWF object is not working.

    To clarify, in Chrome it opens in a new tab, only in explorer it comes as a pop, which is blocked right away by popupblocker.

    I actually do have 1 SWF banner that opens in a new tab in IE, just one but I don’t know what is the difference. Here is the code, XX blank out the site name:

    <object width="300" height="600" classid="clsid:XXXX" codebase="https://XXX.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version="><param name="movie" value="https://XXX.swf" rel="nofollow" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="flashvars" value="&clickTag=XX&clickTAG=httpXX" rel="nofollow" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><embed src="https://XX.swf" rel="nofollow" quality="high" wmode="transparent" pluginspage="https://XX.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="300" height="600" flashvars="&clickTag=http%XXX;clickTAG=httpXXX" rel="nofollow" /></object>

    Why don’t you put the real link up so I can see it.

    You can use dot instead of . and I will change that.

    It is the real link I posted. I just took out the company name and details I don’t think that are required to be published and replaced them with XXX.

    You mean the link to my website?

    I mean the link to the actual flash file. This https://XX.swf does no good.

    Hi Kmessinger, I can’t post it here, its against the contract with company. It is very frustrating. I saw a few articles on it on the internet but no clear solution. If you are reading it now (new people, the problem is to get a flash SWF banner to open in a new tab in IE. The SWF is a linked file from a third party that has clicktag.

    If you sign up with an affiliate link with Amazon for example and they have a flash banner (SWF), you will see what I mean when you insert it in the sidebar.

    I did explore other banners and some have `&target=_blank but it is not working when I apply it to the links I have. I changed the letters and numbers but left the code as it is:

    (I just corrected the link as it was wrong, 21:19 GMT)

    value="link=http%3A//www.XXX.com/%3Gid%3Sdfmk34%53ql%3D2&clickTAG=http%3A//www.XXX.com/%3Sdfmk34%53ql%3D2&bannerLoop=0

    What do I need to add to it to open in a new tab?

    Can you post a link to a flash file that uses a click tag? Also the link I posted above opens in a new window in IE.

    Sorry, I could not find any flash banners in the Amazon affiliate program.

    Thank you for helping me with this Kmessinger. The widget will not help me as the Flash banner is working. The other link posted I already read and for some reason it is not working. Here is an example of Spotify flash banner I found and I just inserted my link. It is not quite the same but similar:

    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="https://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0" width="300" height="250">
      <param name="movie" value="Spotify_premium_300x250.swf" />
      <param name="quality" value="high" value="link=http%3A//www.XXX.com/%3Gid%3Sdfmk34%53ql%3D2&clickTAG=http%3A//www.XXX.com/%3Sdfmk34%53ql%3D2&bannerLoop=0 />
      <embed src="Spotify_premium_300x250.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="https://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="300" height="250" value="link=http%3A//www.XXX.com/%3Gid%3Sdfmk34%53ql%3D2&clickTAG=http%3A//www.XXX.com/%3Sdfmk34%53ql%3D2&bannerLoop=0 ></embed>
    </object>

    Thank you for checking on Amazon. I think Spotify has SWF banner, It is not quite the same as what I have but very similar.

    I made a mistake with the link I gave before, sorry!! This is the correct link I am trying to open in a new tab. When clicking on the SWF banner this is where it takes you. I edited the company’s name and the numbers:

    link=http%3A//www.XXX.com/%4FiK%7J83422%06y5%3D2&clickTAG=http%3A//www.XXX.com/%4FiK%7J83422%06y5%3D2&bannerLoop=0

    I am sorry but there is not anything else I can suggest.

    Any link to anywhere is useless with an xxx.com so you don’t need to post them at all.
