"Open in new tab" opens links in the current and also a new tab

  • Hey everyone,

    we have a custom developed theme from our last developer on https://www.startitup.sk. We got a lot of feedback about a bug, where if you try to control(command)+click an article and try to open it in a new tab, the article loads in the current tab and the new tab also. This is pretty annoying, not standard behaviour and I can’t seem to find a solution.
    For some user the right click + “open in new tab” works as it should, but for many it doesn’t.

    So to be clear, what I need is to change all the links on the website to work properly – when the user right clicks + open in new tab, the current tab stays on the current page and the clicked url only opens in the new tab.. The same goes for control(command) + click, as well wor the scroll button click with a mouse.

    Did anyone experience a similar issue and find a solution? Because I didn’t find anyone with this problem.

  • There is some JavaScript on that page that is causing it. If I disable JavaScript in Firefox, then I can CTRL-Click a link and it opens in a new tab and the current tab stays where it is.

    Now, which piece of JavaScript is causing it, hard to say. One of your plugins or the theme itself is loading it.

    now we have at least some direction to search. I’ll check the plugins and try to discover what exactly is causing this.
