Oops. Something went wrong, resubscribe delleted user

I was testing the form with my email address, and deleted my email address in the Mailchimp List, so I could sign up again. When I went back to testing the form, I started getting the Oops message again. On checking Mailchimp’s API page, I found the error was “[email protected] was permanently deleted and cannot be re-imported. The contact must re-subscribe to get back on the list.” I’m assuming that one cannot re-subscribe via API?
