• A site I worked on (theatrelovett.com) has suddenly gone dark, and I’m at a loss to fully understand why, and how to fix the issue. Attempting to access pages via search links fail.

I’ve looked at the main Codex article on the issue, and attempted to manually override using either the wp-config or functions method, but it hasn’t helped.

The key problem seems to be some form of irregularity around the www prefix. Type in https://www.theatrelovett.com, and you can get to the Maintenance Mode blocker, but the links on that page, and the search links, all point towards theatrelovett.com, with no prefix. (This was how the site was initially set up, hence all the search results point towards theatrelovett.com)

This site was up for months, and there were no problems, so I’m not sure how these settings would have been changed, even, since I didn’t alter them after installation.

Is there another explanation, or am I missing something obvious to a pro?

  • If this site has moved to a new host (and therefore a new ip address) flush your dns on local computer. As for the WWW issue, consult your DNS provider/ web host that the proper A records are in use.

You can also use .htaccess 301 redirect rules to force visitors to either www (or not www) if need be.
