    Yes, the official humans.txt website states that the file has to be located “In the site root.”.

    What about sub-dir WordPress installations containing an *.htaccess file in the server root?

    “Google XML Sitemaps” does not have a problem with sub-dir installations.

    Yes, because sitemaps can be located anywhere, however the “official” humans.txt standard is that the file needs to be in the root of the domain. You can define the constant HUMANSTXT_IS_ROOTINSTALL as true, if you wish to bypass that warning message.

    @steven – You could just write a cron to copy the file from the subdirectory to the root folder.

    Yeah, I guess, but it should be more the responsibility of the plugin developer to make his plugin bulletproof, or foolproof, whatever.

    Would be it a terrible idea to give us the option to place the file elsewhere, however with a bold warning telling us that it must be in the server root to function correctly?
