Only need to use shortcode in static front page

Hi – I am using the shortcode of the widget to display recent posts on my static front page – not on sidebars. We really need to modify the format that is displayed from the widget on the static page but I can’t find a way access the widget parameters with out adding it to a widget area.

What widget area can I add it to so that I can modify the parameters?
