I’ve been working at hosting my own website on my Synology NAS using WordPress. I’ve set up a virtual host and built several web pages on WordPress.
When I go to my website my front page loads fine but clicking any of the menu items returns a time out error. All of the pages, blogs and portfolio show up fine when I preview them in WordPress.
I’ve tried changing themes and deactivating plugins but not has worked. I’ve searched but not really found anything matching my issue directly.
    Thanks in advance.
BTW I wasn’t sure which forum to put this in. If its incorrect please move it where appropriate.

  • Hello Rickycardo!

Try to update the Permalinks: WP Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks -> Hit “Save changes” ( without updating anything. Just hit ). Let me know if works.

    All the best!

Thanks for your help. Sadly no, saving my permalinks again didn’t change anything. I’m struggling to determine if the issue is WordPress or Synology related. I also have a support call in with them about this. My entire website is setup, I just cant access more than the home page from the internet.

In addition does anyone know how the menu links the pages? When I click the “About Me” link on the menu of my home page how does WP know where to direct me. Is this an editable field? Could I have something incorrect in my menu that needs editing?

I fixed this problem. Its not well documented anywhere but I found that if you are using a virtual host you DO NOT NEED to enter the folder in the Setting > General > Site URL.
For example if you are running DDNS on your NAS your site URL on WordPress should look like this:
    https://mydomain.com/web/wordpress
If you are using DDNS AND a virtual host on your Synology NAS your site url in WordPress would look like:
    https://mydomain.com
It was that simple. Everything now works and all web pages are accessible from the internet.
