    HI, I’m running DreamObjects Backup on several domains, and it is working ok for some. It is not working OK for 5dogscreek.com The problems is that DreamObjects does not back up the whole site, DOBU only attempts to BU the wp-content folder. SO is is not a complete BU solution for any of us that have any files external to that folder. That wouldn’t be such a problem if we could move all website content to the wp-content folder & know that it would be backed up.

    But DOBu also gakks if the wp-content folder is “too big”, in which case it won’t backup anything in that folder. And it doesn’t even throw up a complaint – unless you get suspicious that the website you’ve been adding to twice monthly for 10 years has a backup size of only 1 MB. In this particular case there is a 1.7 gb file in wp-content representing an actual weekly backup of the entire site. Since DOBu will not back up the entire site (formerly a flat HTML site, not completely converted to WP), I’m reluctant to disable this other BU system because it does copy the entire site. But then DOBu fails due to the size of wp-content. I wish for DOBu to not fail just because the files add up to over 2 gigs.

    Geez, so we have some serious problems here.

    1) DOBu is designed to ONLY backup the wp-content folder. Which would not be such a big problem except that;

    2) Nothing is backed up (except SQL) when the wp-content folder is over 2 GB.

    3) DreamObjects does not support FTP, and DreamHost has shut down the one place we were allowed to store backups – Hanjin – which did support FTP. I have been using SnapShot Backup for years & it has worked great to back up the entire site then FTP it elsewhere. But DO does not support FTP. (I wish for DO to support FTP).

    4) There is no error message when the backup fails, or fails to get everything as expected. Not unless you turn logging on & go read the log. (I wish for an email error report).

    So this cascade of changes has left me without any working backups for some of my websites.

    I am appreciative for your work, but DreamObjects Backup is designed to only work in certain situations, namely small & simple WP sites.
    Can you offer any Suggestions?

    I want to preface by saying this plugin is not perfect and I know it, but it’s what I call a “Gets the job done for MOST people.” I actually hate it. I hate using WordPress to backup WordPress. It’s kludgy, ineffecient, slow, and … well I hate it.

    But DOBu also gakks if the wp-content folder is “too big”

    Yes. It does. PHP is a loser.

    2) Nothing is backed up (except SQL) when the wp-content folder is over 2 GB.

    That’s actually a hard limit in PHP. It cannot process 2gigs. I can’t work around that without rewriting the system, and we’re working on a better backup outside of WordPress over at DreamHost instead.

    You don’t need FTP ?? You can use Boto via the command line to do it!

    https://wiki.dreamhost.com/Boto

    Or you can wait as we finish up a proper backup solution that is better than Hanjin. As Simon implied: https://twitter.com/dreamhostsimon/status/629856567559467008

    But. At 2G? I can’t make the plugin work for you and I’m very sorry ??
