• Unless I’m missing something, as it is now, only Admins see the QuickTasker menu item on the left. Perfect for a one person gig, or if all users were site Admins. Ideally you want everybody who is registered as a user in the QuickTasker to be able to see the menu item and use this plugin – even subscribers.

How I tested it: A created a user in the site. Then I created the same user in the QuickTasker users table. Then I assigned this new person who started as a subscriber, because all I wanted for this person to do in the backsite, was to see her profile and use the QuickTasker. That did not work either. I kept elevating her level all the way to an Editor, and still no go.

This is not a bug, and I’m not sure if this was done on purpose or a miscalculated usability mistake, but I think this is a big drawback using this plugin, as only Admins can use it.

Other than that, it’s pretty comprehensive and easy to use. Also, ideally I would prefer if there was some overall reporting of the Boards -> Tasks -> Logs for Admins to have, so quickly they can have an overall picture, as opposed to individually having to go in each Board -> Each Task -> To see each Log.

That said, again, having only Admins use QuickTasker is a big drawback.

    Thanks.

    Hey
Thank you for the feedback. Yes you are correct. Currently only admins have access to the QuickTasker item on the left. The idea that I had is that only admins should have the power of managing the plugin (creating tasks, boards, QuickTasker own users etc). User created with the plugin itself (QuickTasker user) should have only access to the mobile-like website, where he/she have limited functionality (see assigned tasks, mark task completed etc).
But I understood the drawback. Hhmm… what I can do is create a custom capability. So admins or other WordPress users who have this custom capability have the power to access the QuickTasker item on the left.
Also the overall reporting is a good idea. Will add it to the to do list.

Wow, fast response, very refreshing. What threw me off was that there is a Private Comment section which is for Admins, and a Public Comment Section, which does not make sense if only Admins are allowed to use it.

I totally agree that only Admins should be able to create and manage tasks and users, and everybody else should be able to use it – and this is important – as long as they are registered as a QuickTasker User, no matter what their user role is in that particular WordPress site. And yes, they should only be allowed to see their assigned tasks, be able to self assign a task if it’s open for all, and be able to see and edit the Public Comments field.

You can then decide to allow all those non Admin users to see all the boards, and all the tasks, or only the tasks that are assigned to them, along with the Free For All tasks.

I am guessing from the Custom Fields section that at some point you will have a premium version, and besides the custom fields, I would recommend you also add emailing feature in there – You get assigned a task, you get an email, you leave a comment, the Admins get an email and vice versa, and when you complete a task, the Admins get an email, etc…

Finally, in the premium version I would add some automation as well – if a task is completed, then automatically the system should move the task to the next Stage, and when it reaches the last stage and gets completed it should be automatically archived – and by this you will be saving lives. In a large busy organization, the Admins will end up killing themselves just by trying to micromanage everything, while with little automation, they don’t have to micromanage too many things – they can just light up their cigars and enjoy their millions !

I cannot wait to see and test any new features and ideas you have about this plugin.

Thank you for the great feedback.

Actually the Public Comments can be added by QuickTasker users. So if a QuickTasker user is assigned to a task then he/she can leave comments for that task in the mobile-like page. That is meant to communicate with the admins about the task.

The automation is a great idea and the emails also. Tnx.

I updated the plugin to 1.4.0
Now you can assign quicktasker_admin_role to non admin WordPress users to have access to QuickTasker admin areas. For that I used User Role Editor by Vladimir Garagulya. After activation go to Users->All Users and hovering over user should reveal Capabilities. There under Custom capabilities you can add quicktasker_admin_role.

Wow, ok we are getting somewhere. The non Admin users can use the system but now have full Admin rights to the tasks, etc… I guess the next update is to restrict what they can do.

Now, one can say if somebody is doing what he should not be doing, everything gets logged in tasks. But unless we get restrictions for the non Admin users, they can delete tasks, boards, etc… without a trace.

Thinking on those lines, besides the restrictions, I would also recommend a way for admins to see exactly a log of what each user has done preferably with a start and end filters, to include or exclude even the Archived tasks.

I really hope at this point you don’t feel like I’m your boss telling you what to do, but merely trying to make this awesome plugin become as good as possible…

    Once again, thanks.
