Online site has disappeared, only background colour shows, admin is ok,

  • <p>Am studying webdesign-built (fresh install) WordPress site for client- has been online though not finished for several weeks. Suddenly it has gone.NO ERROR MESSAGE AT ALL(eg page not found etc) just the orange background from the theme’s CSS( which I’d created it myself)Admin is fine and all files on sever. Been working on localhost, uploading when working correctly, still have it fine locally and tried to delete theme files and install from upload but no difference.</p> <p>Strangest of all, it does show in my Firefox(but only in Firefox)and not just in cache as changes I make are also showing online! Admin at server is baffled, says he has not done anything, but he installed another theme to see if that showed, and sure enough it did, on all browswers!. So must be something to do with my theme but it was showing ok for 2 weeks – can someone please help me, this is for my study and I have to have it online!</p>

  • If the other theme uploaded by server admin worked, and if default theme is also working then logically it would be your theme that’s not properly uploaded or working.

    thanks Mercime for a quick reply. As I said am a student so this is a big learning curve but I figured was my theme. Found out was a script I’d added to the header.php and when I removed that the site was back there! Stupidly, I forgot to do a copy of the working files, becasuse I have done it again, lost the site online, what is more, my theme is not showing in admin panel even though it is there on the server. Now I just have a totally white page and no page source to check on. Got any ideas? and thanks in advance

    Not totally clear by what you mean in your post above.
    What do you mean by copy of “working files”? The theme or database?
    What do you mean by “lost the site online”? Blank page but posts still listed in admin or blank page and posts no longer listed in admin?
    Go back and choose default theme, if you can see your posts there then:
    1. download another copy of the theme you prefer and re-upload.
    2. if you made the theme from scratch … surprised you didn’t back it up.
    Curious what was the script you deleted in header.php
