Online Newspaper

    Hello everybody,

    I am starting out with wordpress and I would like to create an online newspaper.

    I still have some doubts on where to begin; I am especificaly intrigued by the child theme’s concept. Should that be an option for a newspaper? I do not know if i sould create a new theme from scratch, modify an existing theme, or create a child theme.

    Can you guys give me some tips?

  • Depends on your level of coding skill. Starting with a theme or child theme would be much faster and quicker than building one from scratch.

    What would be the best solution independently of the level of coding skill?

    And…in the second scenario (starting with a theme or child theme), what are the differences? Could the child theme be fully customized? What do you think would be best solution considering the context of an online newspaper?

    As I understand, child themes have the advantadge of being capable of upgrading. That seems more appropriate, in a first glance.

    The best solution is not independent of coding skills. It’s fully dependent. The best solution is what you are capable of.

    Both child themes and non are upgradable. If not then they are not coded well.

    You mentioned that you were just starting out. I would start with an existing theme see if it suits your needs and makes changes or set up a child theme if it doesn’t. There is no such thing as the BEST solution.

    Hum, I just do not fully understand what are the advantages of creating a child theme, if non child themes are also upgradable. Do child themes constitute a better solution in case of small appearence modifications?
